Deputy Regional Commander of Hong Kong Island (HKI) Kwok Pak-chung presented appointment letters to 117 new members of Evidence Gathering Teams (EGTs) in a basic training course run by the HKI Regional Public Order Event Investigation Team (RPOEIT) on December 4.
During the course, representatives from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, the Police Tactical Unit, the Operations Wing of HKI and RPOEIT HKI shared their experience in policing public events. Kowloon East and Kowloon West Regions also sent EGT representatives to attend the training course for fostering knowledge exchange.
HKI established 10 EGTs in 2015 to gather evidence in public events as a means to deter illegal acts of radical protestors. In order to cope with a growing number of public events, HKI set up 10 relieving EGTs in 2016. In the first 11 months of 2018, the EGTs were deployed for a total of 50 times and their contribution to the policing of public events was well recognised.
