The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) launched a cyber security facility, the Cyber Range, at Police Headquarters recently to enhance the capabilities of the Force in addressing cyber security issues, collecting cyber intelligence and combating technology crime.
Commissioner Lo Wai-chung officiated at the opening ceremony of the Cyber Range on December 20. Other guests included senior officers of the Force and representatives from the Department of Justice, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, the Innovation and Technology Bureau, the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute and other law enforcement agencies.
Chief Superintendent of CSTCB Chan Tung said in his welcoming remarks, "The establishment of the Cyber Range is a milestone that showcases our commitment to achieving the vision of the Force. The Cyber Range will provide a safe and controlled virtual environment for training police officers and our stakeholders in different cyber-attack scenarios, and develop their skills to handle cyber attacks."
The CSTCB incorporates the knowledge of handling various types of cyber security incidents in the training curricula. Equipped with sophisticated cyber security hardware and software, the Cyber Range simulates an environment that allows officers to play the roles of cyber attackers and defenders in training exercises in a safe and secure manner. It is powered by an advanced training management system that supports training logistics, content preparations and trainee assessments. It is not only a training suite but also an innovative hub for cyber security research and analysis.
The CSTCB will continuously update simulation scenarios and upgrade the tools of the Cyber Range to enable officers and stakeholders to meet the rising challenges of technology crime and cyber security incidents.
