The Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) hosted a Cyber Security Seminar on "Security of Internet-of-Things (IoT) – Challenges and Solutions" at Police Headquarters on December 12. The seminar, which aimed at raising IoT security awareness, attracted the participation of more than 200 cyber security professionals from banking and finance, transport, communications, public utilities and government sectors.


Acting Superintendent of Cyber Security Division (CSD) Hui Yee-wai told the audience that with a rapid growth in the number of IoT devices, emerging cyber threats could seriously affect critical infrastructure and public safety. Chairman of Cloud Security Alliance Hong Kong and Macau Chapter Mr Claudius Lam outlined the types of IoT attacks as well as challenges of securing IoT devices. Then Senior Inspector of CSD Wong Tik-ki shared the latest information about malware attacks on IoT devices and the relevant security solutions.


The speakers also highlighted the best practices for securing IoT devices and urged the practitioners to devise measures to prevent IoT attacks. The attendees actively participated in the discussion, adding that the seminar provided useful information for their organisations to develop IoT security measures.
