The Traffic Branch Headquarters (TBHQ) and the Traffic Equipment Training Unit of the Police Driving and Traffic Training Centre (PD&TTC) ran a course on Drug Driving Impairment Test from December 3 to 7 to enhance the professionalism of traffic officers.

Two internationally-recognised instructors, Mr Steve Collier and Mrs Adrienne Hunt, from the United Kingdom were invited to run the course for 10 participants from TBHQ, PD&TTC and Regional Traffic Formations. The course focused on assessing the ability of the participants as qualified instructors. All the participants passed both practical and written examinations and were qualified as Impairment Test Instructors. Through experience sharing and discussion, the participants have benefited much from the course.

Since the Road Traffic (Amendment) Ordinance 2011 came into effect on March 15, 2012, the Police have been given greater enforcement powers to combat drug driving, including preliminary drug testing of drivers suspected of taking drugs. The Impairment Test is a very effective measure to identify drug drivers.
