Some districts and divisions started implementing winter precaution measures ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays to remind the public to step up home and shop security. More units are going to organise similar publicity activities with the approach of the Lunar New Year.


STDIST


On December 3 and 6, Shatin District (STDIST) Commander Mak Lau Wai-mun led officers of Police Community Relations Office, Ma On Shan Division and Sha Tin Division to distribute anti-crime leaflets to shop attendants and customers in Ma On Shan and Tai Wai respectively. Also joining the publicity drive were Sha Tin District Council (STDC) members Mr Lee Chi-wing, Mr Hui Yui-yu and Mr Li Sai-hung, Sha Tin District Fight Crime Committee members Ms Wong Yuk-sim and Ms Leung Yuen-yam and Senior Police Call members. Mrs Mak reminded the citizens to take precautionary measures ahead of Christmas and stay alert to burglary and deception.


Meanwhile, with the support of STDC members Mr Wai Hing-cheung and Mr Lai Tsz-yan, Police Community Relations Officer Tam Chun-hei conducted a crime prevention seminar at Regal Riverside Hotel on December 10. They handed out leaflets about the prevention of cyber crimes, romance scams and drug abuse to over 100 staff members in the seminar.


CDIST & WDIST


The kick-off ceremony of the Year-End Fight Crime Publicity Campaign for Central and Western District was held on December 7. Officiating at the ceremony included Western District (WDIST) Commander Wong Siu-hing, Assistant District Officer (Central and Western District) Ms Wong Suet-yi, Chairman of Central and Western District Council Mr Yip Wing-shing, Chairman of Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee (C&W DFCC) Mr Yeung Man-lee, Chairman of Crime Prevention Working Group of C&W DFCC Mr Ip Yik-nam, Chairman of WDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary President Council Dr Lam Wai-wing, Chairman of Central District (CDIST) JPC Honorary President Council Mr Yip Chun-nam, Chairman of WDIST Senior Police Call (SPC) Honorary President Council Mr Chan Wai-chuen and Chairman of CDIST SPC Honorary President Council Mr Lam Pak-cheong.


Wong Siu-hing presented appointment letters to 25 new Evergreen Ambassadors to enlist their support in fighting crime. She and Assistant District Commander (Operations) of CDIST Man Ngar-man, along with other officiating guests and Evergreen Ambassadors, distributed fight crime leaflets and souvenirs to local residents as well as patrons of shops and restaurants, calling on them to "Beware of Deception", "Guard against Sexual Assault", "Avoid Theft" and "Stand Firm against Drugs".


MKDIST


Mong Kok District (MKDIST) rolled out a series of fight crime events on December 13, 17 and 19. MKDIST Commander Bradley Wright distributed crime prevention leaflets to shopkeepers and citizens before the festive season, with the support of Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee Ms Chan Heung-lin and Ms Rita Gurung, Yau Tsim Mong District Council members Mr Wong Kin-san and Mr Lam Kin-man as well as representatives of Mongkok Kai Fong Association and Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon West, some community leaders and Senior Police Call members. They reminded shopkeepers and citizens to be vigilant of telephone scammers and adopt security measures at home and in their vehicles.


WCHDIST


Officers of Wan Chai District (WCHDIST) and Happy Valley Division (HVDIV), together with members of Wan Chai District Council and Wan Chai District Fight Crime Committee, launched the Winter Precaution Fight Crime Campaign on December 16 to increase the awareness of residents and shop operators of anti-burglary and anti-theft messages. Joining the publicity campaign included Chairman of Wan Chai District Council Mr Ng Kam-chun, Legislative Council member cum Wan Chai District Council (WCDC) member Mr Tse Wai-chun, WCDC member Mr Lam Wai-man, Wan Chai District Fight Crime Committee member Mr Ng Chak-sum and some volunteers. Accompanied by Divisional Commander of HVDIV Raymond Chou, they gave out anti-burglary devices and fliers to people in residential buildings, shops and prime locations in Happy Valley to remind them to step up home and shop security.
