With the Chinese New Year around the corner, winter precaution measures are in full swing in various districts, reminding the public to pay attention to the security of their property and keep a vigilant eye on crime and deception.


KTDIST


Kwun Tong District (KTDIST) partnered with Kwun Tong District Fight Crime Committee (KTDFCC) to organise the Winter Precaution Campaign cum Presentation of KTDIST Outstanding Police Officers Award 2018 in Yau Tong on January 5, with the participation of over 300 people. In view of a rising trend of technology crime, KTDIST Anti-crime Poster Design Competition was held earlier to raise local youngsters and elders' awareness of social media fraud.


KTDIST Commander Chan Kwok-kee, along with KTDFCC Chairman Mr Lo Yan-lai and other committee members, presented awards to KTDIST Outstanding Police Officers as well as winners of the Anti-crime Poster Design Competition. Students of SKH Lee Shiu Keung Primary School staged a drama to remind the audience to be vigilant of online romance scams.


Afterwards, KTDIST officers and KTDFCC members led Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call volunteers to distribute crime prevention leaflets, red lucky scrolls and souvenirs to shop attendants and shoppers in Yau Tong and Lam Tin to remind the recipients to beware of burglary, telephone deception and online fraud.


SSPODIST


Sham Shui Po District (SSPODIST) Commander Ho Kai-hin led officers to take part in the Winter Precaution Publicity Campaign on January 4 together with Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) Mr Li Hon-hung, other members of Sham Shui Po DFCC and Senior Police Call volunteers. They distributed anti-crime leaflets and souvenirs to shopkeepers and shoppers in a bid to remind the recipients to strengthen shop and home security and to raise crime prevention awareness with the advent of the Chinese New Year.


YTDIST


To increase crime prevention awareness of members of the public particularly during festivals, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Deputy Commander Ma Wai-hing, along with Chairman of Yau Tsim Mong District Council Mr Ip Ngo-tung, Chairperson of Yau Tsim Mong District Fight Crime Committee Ms Chan Heung-lin, Senior Police Call members and local community members, took part in the Winter Precaution and Fight Crime Publicity Campaign on December 20, 2018. They handed out crime prevention leaflets and red lucky scrolls to shopkeepers and shoppers at Canton Road, Haiphong Road, Hankow Road, Lock Road, Nathan Road and Peking Road to remind the recipients to step up shop security and keep a close watch on personal belongings.


Meanwhile, Acting Tsim Sha Tsui Divisional Commander Chan Wai-wah and Yaumatei Divisional Commander Tam Pik-ling, respectively, partnered with community leaders to distribute fliers on winter precaution and red pockets to shopkeepers, stall hawkers and shoppers at Humphreys Avenue and Carnarvon Road on December 28, 2018 and at the Yau Ma Tei Jade Hawker Bazaar and Bowring Street on January 4.


KCDIST


Kowloon City District (KCDIST) organised the Winter Precaution Fight Crime cum Road Safety Publicity Event in partnership with Kowloon City District Road Safety Campaign Committee on December 17, 2018.


Acting KCDIST Commander Chan Chun-fai distributed fight crime and road safety leaflets to shop attendants and tenants in Hung Hom and Kowloon City together with Chairman of Kowloon City District Council Mr Pun Kwok-wah, Chairman of Kowloon City District Fight Crime Committee (KCDFCC) Mr Siu Chor-kee, Vice Chairpersons of Kowloon City District Road Safety Campaign Committee Ms Lam Suet-mui, Mr Lin Man and Mr Chung Tsi-kuen, other stakeholders and Senior Police Call members. They reminded community members to stay alert of burglary and telephone deception, and raise their awareness of road safety.


HVDIV


Happy Valley Division (HVDIV) hosted a security seminar under the Defence Alliance Campaign in collaboration with the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Hong Kong Island on November 30, 2018. The seminar aimed to raise the anti-burglary awareness of property management practitioners.


About 30 representatives of local building management offices attended the seminar. Officers explained to them the prevailing crime trend, the modus operandi of burglary, and HVDIV's policing strategies. Divisional Commander of HVDIV Raymond Chou said the Police would step up patrol in Christmas and Lunar New Year holidays. He appealed to the security sector and residents to implement adequate security measures and maintain close liaison with the Police to prevent and combat burglary.
