Thousands of people visited the Police booth in the Education and Careers Expo 2019 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from January 24 to 27 to learn about the diversified and challenging work of the Force. A record high of over 1 600 applications for police posts were received on the spot.

With the theme of "Serve and Protect Hong Kong", the Force showcased its expertise and different facets of police work and provided the latest recruitment information to visitors. Director of Personnel and Training Li Kin-fai, together with Acting Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chiu Wing-lan and other senior officers, visited the Police booth to show their support to officers on duty.

To project a professional and positive image of the Force, 16 Police units and secondary duty cadres, including the Airport Security Unit, the Emergency Unit, the Counter Terrorism Response Unit, the Force Search Unit and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau, took turns to introduce their job duties, uniforms and equipment to the visitors.

This was the first time for the Briefing Support Unit to attend the event and display its constructed crime scene model. Officers explained to the visitors how they used professional techniques for criminal investigation and court hearing of major cases. In addition, the Force brought innovative technology into the Expo by introducing an artificial intelligence system, "Chatbot", to answer recruitment-related inquiries. A virtual reality shooting game was available to boost public participation.

The Recruitment Division gave a recruitment talk about the entry requirements, selection procedures, career development and promotion paths of police officers. Interested visitors submitted on-site applications and underwent initial screening there.
