Superintendents Shiu Wan-yee and Ko Chun-pong attended a training programme at The London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom (UK) between October 1 and December 14, 2018. The programme was run for Hong Kong government officials. Other participants included four Administrative Officers and four Departmental Grade officers from various bureaux and departments.
The programme aimed to enhance the participants' ability in analysing global political and economic issues and the role of the public sector from a holistic perspective. They gained valuable insights through lectures, sharing sessions and interaction with renowned academics. At that time, the UK was facing unprecedented challenges in connection with the Brexit predicament. The participants took the opportunity to learn how the UK Government dealt with the crisis.
Arrangements were made for the participants to visit the London Office of the European Commission, the Houses of Parliament and the Royal Courts of Justice. Furthermore, they went to the London Assembly to join the Mayor's Question Time meeting. The visits enabled the participants to get a deeper understanding of public management at regional, national and local levels.
