The Police Tactical Units (PTUs) of New Territories North (NTN) Region, New Territories South (NTS) Region and Hong Kong Island (HKI) Region as well as the Regional Rural Patrol Unit (Emergency Unit of HKI) jointly conducted Operation ROLLRIDER cum Project Caring Walker on January 19. Officers patrolled hiking trials in the New Territories (NT) and on Hong Kong Island to enhance hikers' confidence in the safety of rural areas and to spread safe hiking messages.

A total of 68 officers from the three Regions conducted high profile patrol on 10 hiking trials with reference to the local crime trends. The officers distributed leaflets to hikers, reminding them of better route planning and contingency measures. The officers also advised the hikers not to go hiking alone and avoid taking shortcuts. The anti-crime operation will be conducted regularly in hiking season.
