Marine West Division (MWDIV) conducted an inter-departmental exercise with the Fire Services Department (FSD) and the Marine Department at Castle Peak Bay Typhoon Shelter on January 21. The exercise aimed to strengthen cross-sectoral co-operation in handling emergencies and raising the seafaring community's fire prevention awareness in the Lunar New Year.
The exercise simulated a fishing boat catching fire and a person falling overboard. Marine Police swiftly conveyed firemen to the scene for fire-fighting, and rescued the victim. MWDIV Commander Yuen Ching-fong highly praised the officers and firemen for their professionalism, adding that the departments cherished every opportunity to foster co-ordination and communication in handling maritime fire incidents.
Later on January 29, Marine North Division (MNDIV) conducted an annual fire drill with Tai Po East Fire Station at Shuen Wan Typhoon Shelter. The drill aimed to enhance co-ordination between the FSD and Marine Police in dealing with "Vessels On Fire" and to raise the community's fire prevention awareness.
The drill simulated a fishing vessel on fire and a person falling overboard. Firemen boarded a police launch to put out the fire while the Diving Unit of the FSD carried out an underwater search for the victim. Over 40 marine police officers and firemen participated in the event whilst members of the local fishing community were invited to observe the drill. MNDIV Commander Ip Chi-kuen and Divisional Commander of New Territories East Division of the FSD Lee Kai-cheong praised the officers for their professionalism. They said the exercise enhanced collaboration and resilience of various government departments in rescue operations at fire incidents and increase the public's fire prevention awareness.
