The Airport Security Unit (ASU) conducted an inter-departmental counter-terrorism (CT) exercise, codenamed "ROARTIGER", on January 25. The exercise tested the CT response plans and procedures, as well as co-ordination among various government departments and commercial stakeholders.

The participants came from the ASU, the Police Tactical Unit (PTU) of New Territories South, the Police Dog Unit, the Civil Aviation Department, the Airport Authority and the Hong Kong Airlines.

The ASU conducted a search for simulated hijackers in a cabin, and worked with the PTU to test the procedures for handling affected persons. The exercise also examined the Force's ability to handle a terrorist attack requiring Immediate Tactical Intervention. This enabled the ASU to further enhance its capabilities in dealing with terrorist attacks on aircrafts.
