The Operations Wing of New Territories South (NTS) held a kick-off ceremony of "Project SHINE" on January 23, with the participation of over 80 representatives from the Social Welfare Department (SWD), the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing (JCCPA), residential care homes for the elderly, public transport companies and the security sector.

The ceremony was presided by NTS Deputy Regional Commander Kwan Chui-ching, Senior Superintendent (Operations) (NTS) Ian Clark, Social Work Officer from the SWD Mr Chun Wai-kwong, General Manager of JCCPA Ms Florence Ho and Project Manager cum Senior Training Consultant of JCCPA Mr Kenny Chui. They promoted the use of Global Positioning System, Octopus Card number and Tag with Emergency Contact to prevent the elderly from getting lost and help them go home safely.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Clark said with the growing number of elders with dementia, the risk of them getting lost is higher. NTS Region will continue to work with other government departments, non-profit-making and private organisations to minimise the chance of elders getting lost through education, prevention and detection.

The ceremony also featured case sharing, presentation of certificates of merit to members of the public and officers, and the announcement of winners of the Project SHINE Poster Design Competition. In addition, Mr Kenny Chui shared the basic knowledge of dementia. At the end of the ceremony, the participants explored networking and co-operation opportunities.
