Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Chiu Wai-yin, together with DCP MAN (Designate) Kwok Yam-shu, Director of Finance, Administration and Planning Ms Joyce Tam and Police Civil Secretary Ms Ma Siu-hung, met representatives of seven civilian staff associations at a lunch gathering on February 28.

The representatives came from the Association of Police Translators, the Association of Police Communications Officers, the Hong Kong Traffic Wardens Union, the HKSAR Government Traffic Wardens General Union, the Hong Kong Police Force Telecommunications Technical Staff Union, the Hong Kong Police Force Model Scale 1 Staff Association and the Hong Kong Police Force Civilian Officers' Union. They exchanged views with the Force management on the development of their grades and other staff matters.

Speaking at the gathering, Ms Chiu said the overall law and order situation in Hong Kong continued to improve in 2018, with the overall crime figure dropping to its lowest level since 1974. The Force has overcome various obstacles and has kept the crime rate at a low level. This reflected not only the hard work of frontline officers, but also the full backing of the supporting staff including civilian colleagues. She thanked in particular civilian staff for their devotion to duty and their team spirit in working with disciplined officers during the passage of super typhoon Mangkhut.

Ms Chiu said she was confident that the civilian and disciplined officers would continue to work together to serve the community and embrace the challenges ahead with professionalism and dedication. She hoped the civilian staff and the management would continue to maintain good communication, and work hand in hand to fulfil the Force's mission to maintain law and order.
