The Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) held the award presentation ceremony of the Security Services Best Training Awards 2018 in conjunction with the Vocational Training Council (VTC) at the Police Headquarters on March 22. About 280 representatives from police districts and the security sector attended the ceremony.
The event was launched in 2010 with the support of the Security and Guarding Services Industry Authority. The awards aim at encouraging security companies to organise long-term quality training programmes to enhance the competence of security guards in assisting the Police to prevent crime.
Director of Operations Siu Chak-yee, Chairlady of the Security Services Training Board of the VTC Ms Jane Curzon Lo and Senior Assistant Executive Director of the VTC Ms Gladys Yam were invited as Guests of Honor. A record number of 101 awards were presented to security companies in recognition of their efforts in enhancing the professional competence of their staff. Of these companies, 66 were presented with the Gold Award, 22 with the Silver Award, eight with the Bronze Award and five with the Merit Award.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Siu thanked the security sector for actively supporting the Police in preventing crime. He said the Police have just launched the Strategic Directions (SDs) for the next three years. One of the SDs, "Policing WITH the community" is closely related to the security sector. In the coming three years, the Police will strengthen public awareness of crime prevention. When security guards witness crimes and see any suspicious persons or activities, they should inform the Police as soon as possible. Property management companies can also enhance security of estates. In addition, the Police will strengthen communication with different sectors of the community, including the security sector, through various social media platforms to raise their awareness of crime prevention and crime fighting. The Security Services Best Training Awards is one of the best initiatives to support the SDs.
