The Regional Crime Prevention Office of New Territories South (RCPO NTS) launched the NTS Anti-Deception Publicity Week from March 18 to 22 to raise public awareness of deception.
RCPO NTS, together with Police Community Relations Office in districts, Patrol Sub-units and community stakeholders, set up crime prevention booths in shopping centres and estates and distributed leaflets to the public. Crime prevention seminars were held in elderly centres and primary and secondary schools. Anti-deception videos have been broadcast in three major shopping centres, eight hospitals and clinics as well as sports centres of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. In addition, publicity posters and information have been delivered to 375 residential estates, 228 industrial buildings and 242 commercial buildings to raise public awareness of scams.
Furthermore, RCPO NTS collaborated with the Department of Public Policy of the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) to run thematic seminars for officers on March 18 and 25. Forty-nine master degree's students were invited to analyse anti-deception strategies of different countries and propose suggestions to prevent fraud. The participants were representatives from the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre, the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau, the Crime Prevention Bureau and RCPO of Kowloon West.
