New Territories South (NTS) Region hosted a Community Engagement Reception for over 140 community leaders and partners on March 18, with members of District Fight Crime Committees, District Councils and Rural Committees, Honorary Presidents of Junior Police Call and Senior Police Call, school principals as well as representatives from the security, aviation and transportation sectors attending the event.

Acting NTS Regional Commander Kwan Chui-ching thanked the community stakeholders for their support in fighting crime, adding that the crime figures in the region remained at a low level. A short video was broadcast to review the work and achievements of formations and districts in maintaining law and order and engaging the community in NTS in 2018, followed by a presentation of certificates of appreciation to supporting organisations. In addition, the Airport Security Unit, the Emergency Unit and Traffic Formation of NTS demonstrated their equipment.

The highlight of the reception was a sharing by four frontline officers of their memorable work experience. Senior Inspector Wan Pui-yee and Senior Police Constable Lee Chun-man shared their experience in detecting a murder case. Sergeant Pang Kwong-man talked about the rescue of two persons who attempted suicide. Sergeant Wong Hoi-man spoke on how he led his team to crack down on a spiritual blessing gang for deception. All of them showed dedication, courage and professionalism in face of challenges. The sharing enabled the guests to get a better understanding of the difficulties of police work.

The reception not only fostered partnership between the community and the Police, but also enhanced the community's appreciation of the work of frontline officers.
