The Regional Missing Person Unit of Kowloon West (RMPU KW) held a sharing session for residential care homes for the elderly on April 26 at KW Regional Headquarters to increase the vigilance of elderly care service providers in preventing their residents from going missing. The event was organised in partnership with the Elderly Services Association of Hong Kong.

The speakers included dementia specialists from the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing, Dean of Chuk Lam Ming Tong Care and Attention Home for the Aged, and occupational therapists from the Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease Association. A Social Work Officer from the Licensing Office of Residential Care Homes for the Elderly at the Social Welfare Department also attended the event.

The session covered three aspects, namely skills of caring for dementia patients, ways to enhance the capabilities of employees in handling patients with Alzheimer's disease, as well as raising the management standard of the elderly care sector.

Over 60 representatives from residential care homes for the elderly in the KW Region took part in the sharing session. The event not only provided the participants with the latest information on elderly care and support services, but also strengthened the communication of stakeholders. This helped promote the provision of quality service for the elderly, thereby minimising the risk of elderly residents wandering away from the homes.
