The Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB) conducted the 14th Triad Expert Training Course between May 6 and 24 to train officers to provide expert advice in triad-related cases. A record number of 58 trainees, including 52 Force members and six police officers from Singapore and Macao, attended the course.

The course was intensive and comprehensive, covering the background, historical developments, recent changes and the latest trend of triad societies. In addition to veteran triad experts, a number of guest speakers were invited to share their expertise in the course. They included a former magistrate, a former Principal Government Counsel, a Court Prosecutor, an Honorary Assistant Professor of The University of Hong Kong, officers of the Correctional Services Department and a Taoist master. Some police officers who had participated in undercover operations were also invited to share their experience and knowledge about triad societies.

Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Yuen Yuk-kin officiated at the graduation ceremony of the course in the Police College on May 24 and presented certificates of attendance to the trainees. He encouraged them to make efforts to play the role of triad experts, and thanked the CIB for conducting the course.

The course equipped the trainees with the relevant knowledge and tactics in combating triad societies. The Force participants would assume secondary duties in the Triad Expert Cadre to provide expert evidence and advice on triad-related cases in court.
