Commissioner Lo Wai-chung and Deputy Commissioner (Management) Kwok Yam-shu attended "Iftar" dinners hosted separately by two Muslim groups in May. This was a recognition of the long-standing relationship between the Force and the Muslim communities in Hong Kong.


According to Islamic law, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, known as Ramadan. The Muslim groups hold "Iftar" dinners for breaking the daily fast.


On the invitation of Chairman of the Islamic Union of Hong Kong Mr Azizul Rahman Suffiad, Mr Lo Wai-chung attended the union's dinner at Masjid Ammar and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre in Wan Chai on May 14. Other Force representatives were Acting Director of Crime and Security Yuen Yuk-kin, Wanchai District (WCHDIST) Commander Tse Kwok-wai and some officers of WCHDIST. Other guests included consular representatives in Hong Kong, government officials and celebrities. Mr Suffiad thanked the Force for its commitment to maintaining Hong Kong as one of the safest cities in the world, as well as promoting ethnic harmony.


On the other hand, Mr Kwok Yam-shu attended a dinner hosted by the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong on May 9. Other Force representatives were Kowloon West Regional Commander Cheuk Hau-yip, Hong Kong Island Regional Commander Kwok Pak-chung and Deputy Regional Commander Lui Kam-ho, Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) Commander Ho Yun-sing, WCHDIST Commander Tse Kwok-wai, YTDIST Deputy District Commander Ma Wai-hing and WCHDIST Deputy District Commander Mak Man-yu. Other guests included Under Secretary for Home Affairs Mr Jack Chan, Deputy Commissioner of Correctional Services Mr Wong Kwok-hing, consular representatives in Hong Kong and local Muslim leaders.


Chairman of the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong Mr Zoheir Tyebkhan expressed gratitude to the Force for their concern to non-ethnic Chinese communities and hoped Hong Kong would continue to promote racial harmony.
