Marine North Division (MNDIV) ran an exercise on April 16 to test officers' ability to cope with emergencies arising from nuclear power stations at Daya Bay to ensure that they can effectively implement the Daya Bay Contingency Plan.

The exercise simulated a leakage of radiation at a nuclear power station at Daya Bay, leading to the activation of the Daya Bay Contingency Plan by the Secretary for Security. As a precautionary measure, an order was made for the evacuation of Tung Ping Chau. MNDIV officers cordoned off the nearby sea, conducted a search on Tung Ping Chau and in Mirs Bay and evacuated residents and visitors.

Over 60 Marine Police Officers participated in the exercise and 30 mentees of the Marine Police Mentorship Programme were invited to play the role of tourists on Tung Ping Chau. Divisional Commander of MNDIV Ip Chi-kuen praised the officers for their professionalism, co-ordination and resilience displayed in the exercise.
