Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) hosted a tea reception on April 25 in celebration of the sixth anniversary of Project Gemstone. The project helps non-ethnic Chinese young people to enhance their Chinese language proficiency to pursue a career in the Force or other disciplined services. So far, 14 Gemstone members have joined the disciplinary forces including the Police Force, the Fire Services Department, the Correctional Services Department and the Customs and Excise Department.
Two Gemstone members, Khan Ahmad Rizwan and Kaur Mukhjot, performed the role of Master of Ceremony at the reception. Speaking at the event, YTDIST Commander Ho Yun-sing encouraged Gemstone members to keep up their efforts. Sergeant Hung Ka-wai reviewed the achievement of the project and outlined upcoming activities and plans. Some Gemstone members shared their experience and thanked senior officers and guests for their support.
Incumbent and former senior officers of the Project Gemstone Management Team, including Kowloon West Regional Commander Cheuk Hau-yip, Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Chung Sze-pong and former Chief Superintendent Siu Kit-hung, attended the reception. Other guests included Chairman and Honorary Presidents of YTDIST Junior Police Call Honorary President Council, Police volunteers from the regular and auxiliary forces, 11 Gemstone members who serve in the Force, as well as Gemstone students.
Looking into the future, YTDIST will collaborate with different organisations and other police districts to promote the spirit of Project Gemstone to "Enhance Language Proficiency and Integrate into the Community." Apart from running language courses, physical training classes and social activities, the project also encourages members to participate in volunteer service to develop a positive lifestyle.
