The Central and Western District Road Safety Carnival cum Presentation Ceremony 2018-2019 took place at the Chater Road Pedestrian Precinct in Central on April 28. The event was organised by the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee and was co-ordinated by Central District (CDIST), with the Central and Western District Council, Central and Western District Office as well as Western District (WDIST) as co-organisers. This year, CDIST invited artiste Ms Kelly Fu as the Road Safety Ambassador.
The carnival was officiated by Chairman of the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee Mr Chow Chiu-sheung, Chairman of the Central and Western District Council Mr Yip Wing-shing, District Officer (Central and Western) Mrs Susanne Wong, Deputy District Commander of CDIST San Tze-kin, Deputy District Commander of WDIST Lam Hung-chuen and Senior Superintendent of Traffic Hong Kong Island Region Yip Siu-ming.
In the past year, the Central and Western District Road Safety Campaign Committee disseminated road safety messages to the public through a series of large-scale promotional activities, road safety talks, poster design and colouring competitions as well as education and publicity campaigns at traffic black spots in the district.
The carnival drew a large turnout. Apart from presenting prizes to student winners of the road safety poster design and colouring competitions, the event featured performances and activities, including a police dog show, a guide dog show, a foot-drill performance by kids, a lion dance performed by primary school students as well as a magic show.
