The 26th Tripartite Technical Support Meeting was held in Hong Kong on June 11, during which officers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao exchanged views and experience in six aspects of work, namely fingerprint examination, explosive ordnance disposal, firearms examination, police dog training, general forensic examination and forensic pathology.
Chief Superintendent Chan Wing-on of Crime Wing Support Group led the Hong Kong team, comprising representatives of the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) and the Government Laboratory as well as Forensic Pathologists from the Department of Health, to meet with the Guangdong and Macao delegates. The delegations were headed respectively by Chief of Forensic Science Centre of Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department Mr Liu Weiguo and Assistant to Commissioner-General of Macao Unitary Police Service Mr Mui San-meng.
With the assistance of the Fire Services Department (FSD), the tripartite delegates attended a Fire Investigation Workshop at the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy. Forensic experts from the Government Laboratory, together with officers of HKPF and FSD, demonstrated their investigation techniques in a simulated arson case. This provided a good opportunity for the delegates to share their knowledge and experience in fire investigation.
Mr Chan Wing-on expressed sincere gratitude to the delegates for their participation as well as their constructive ideas about examination techniques, professional knowledge and technical skills in forensic science. He said the exchange had further enhanced the expertise of the forensic practitioners.
