Regional Commander of Kowloon West (KW) Cheuk Hau-yip and Chairman of the Kowloon West Youth-Care Committee (KWYCC) Mr Chan Kin-ping co-chaired the 50th meeting of the KWYCC at KW Regional Headquarters on July 3. The meeting gathered KWYCC presidents and members to look into the prevalent youth problems in the Region.

Before the meeting, Mr Chan represented the KWYCC to thank the Police for its selfless and unyielding efforts in handling the recent public events. During the meeting, the attendees not only reviewed the publicity, education and supportive services of youth work, but also formulated strategies for preventing youth crime and discussed proposed youth activities.

Then Mr Cheung Cheung-ho, Project Officer of the Youth Action Network of The Boys' & Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong (BGCA), presented a thank-you card made by the participants of a tutorial class to the Chairman of KWYCC. The tutorial class is jointly run by the KWYCC, the Juvenile Protection Section of KW Region, the Youth Action Network of BGCA and the Volunteer Service Group of City University of Hong Kong (CityU). During the school term, CityU student volunteers offer one-to-one free tutorials for students in need every week.

Since 2001, KW has invited community leaders, professionals and relevant stakeholders to form the KWYCC, with university professors, non-ethnic Chinese leaders and artistes serving as consultants. Under the co-ordination of KW Regional Crime Prevention Office, the KWYCC deliberates youth crime prevention issues on a regular basis. A variety of activities, training courses and workshops are organised to cultivate positive values among youngsters, foster their personal development and open up their horizons.
