Officers of the Regional Crime Prevention Office of Kowloon West (RCPO KW) held three large-scale anti-crime and anti-deception talks for over 2 000 new non-local university students and 500 parents of mainland students at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in late August.

Officers explained to the participants the modus operandi of telephone scams and ways to protect personal data. Officers also introduced the "Anti-Scam Helpline 18222", an enquiry hotline operated by the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre, with the aim of raising the participants' awareness of scams and reducing their risks of falling into deception traps.

The talks were well-received by the students and parents. They said they would disseminate the crime prevention messages to their relatives and friends.
