Operations Wing of Kowloon East Region (OPS KE) organised an operational first aid seminar for frontline officers participating in Operation TIDERIDER at the Auxiliary Police Headquarters on December 5, 2019. The seminar aimed to enhance officers' knowledge, capability and confidence to render first aid to injured persons on the spot of public order events.

President of Hong Kong Association for Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine, Dr Jimmy Chan, shared operational first aid knowledge with over 200 officers from Regional Response Contingent KE, Emergency Unit KE, Traffic KE, Wong Tai Sin District, Kwun Tong District, Tseung Kwan O District, Sau Mau Ping District and Railway District.

Dr Chan prepared tailor-made briefing materials on the dos and don'ts for the immediate treatment of injuries commonly seen in violent protests during Operation TIDERIDER, which included injuries caused by sharp objects, corrosive chemicals, petrol bombs and explosives.

The officers found the seminar very useful because sometimes ambulance personnel might not be able to reach the scene of incidents quickly to attend injured persons. The seminar enabled the officers to acquire first aid knowledge and enhanced their capability to render assistance to injured persons on the operational ground.
