Since the implementation of the mandatory home quarantine order, members of the Emergency Unit (EU) under the Hong Kong Police Force, as well as officers from fellow disciplined services including the Customs and Excise Department, the Correctional Services Department, the Fire Services Department and the Immigration Department, have been carrying out spot checks on a daily basis. This is to ensure persons under mandatory quarantine have been staying at home as required by the quarantine order, for the sake of lowering the chance of transmitting the infectious disease in the community.
According to Sergeant Tse of the EU Kowloon West, although their duties involve risks, EU members do receive relevant training as well as suitable protective gear beforehand, including surgical face masks and gloves, to protect themselves and their colleagues. Sergeant Tse pointed out that, while protective gear is important, personal hygiene is even more essential. As a supervisor, Sergeant Tse ensures colleagues' personal hygiene and cleanliness of their hands after each spot check, to prevent the transfer of risk to other members of the public, colleagues or their family members. As for persons who have violated the home quarantine order, EU members will immediately notify relevant units to refer the cases to the Department of Health for further follow-up actions, in order to minimise the risk of spreading the contagious disease in the community.
