In February, Tsuen Wan District (TWDIST) invited Dr Jimmy Chan, former Accident and Emergency Department Chief cum Honorary Advisor of the Police College, to run a training workshop on minimising the threat of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) when carrying out police duties.

The occupational safety and health protection of officers were emphasised during the workshop including channels of infection as well as the selection of appropriate types of personal protection equipment (PPE). Dr Chan also debunked many misconceptions and myths such as clarifying that wearing double face masks would in fact offer less protection than just wearing one. Moreover, Dr Chan visited Tsuen Wan Police Station's decontamination facilities and gave some valuable comments and advice.

The workshop was attended by officers from TWDIST as well as other formations in New Territories South Region. Inspector Mak Ho-Yin from Police Tactical Unit Foxtrot Company, whose platoon was involved in the quarantine of the cruise ship World Dream, found the workshop very useful as it included good practices relating to the wearing, removing and disposing of PPE.
