When the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government arranged four chartered flights to bring back Hong Kong residents stranded in Hubei province on March 4 and 5, Airport District (APTDIST), in cooperation with the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), the Port Health Division of the Department of Health and various government departments, conducted a joint operation in the restricted area of Hong Kong International Airport. To ensure the safety of returning passengers and smooth operations, APTDIST officers were stationed on the tarmac to maintain order. The AAHK also deployed a Mobile Liaison Centre, which served as an on-site coordination centre to facilitate communication among relevant units.
With the efforts of all parties concerned, a total of 469 Hong Kong residents, including pregnant women, Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination candidates and people suffering from serious illnesses, safely returned. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, they received security and temperature checks before leaving for the quarantine centre in Chun Yeung Estate under police escort to undergo 14 days of quarantine observation.
