Deputy Commissioner (Management) (DCP MAN) Chow Yat-ming inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer at the Hong Kong Police College on September 17. He encouraged the graduates to demonstrate the Force’s professionalism and tell the public good stories of the Police through their own performances.
In his speech, DCP MAN shared that Hong Kong Police College is the common starting point for every fellow officer to develop their career in the Force. Every one of them bears the responsibility to present the Force’s professionalism to the public. He hoped that the graduates could apply the knowledge they had acquired to performing their duties so that they could maintain national security and protect citizens professionally without failing the expectation of the Government and the public on the Force. He stressed that junior officers are the mainstay of the Force that always stay at the forefront in maintaining law and order.
He described police stories as a drama series in which different episodes were generated under the common theme of “protecting citizens’ lives and properties”. Police officers in different positions may have different responsibilities and play different roles in the Force. Regardless of their rank and position, their original aspiration in joining the Force and their dedication to fighting crime and guarding the city with honour, duty and loyalty will go through each role in every episode of the police stories.
DCP MAN pointed out that for the Hong Kong Police Force to stay among its best counterparts worldwide, it all depends on the officers upholding their beliefs, putting their original aspiration in practice, maintaining good internal communication and realising fully the idea that “an extra mile can be made when everyone takes an extra step” when faced with difficulties. He hoped that the graduates could remind themselves of the mission they were tasked with as a police officer and keep advancing with it whenever they encountered adversity. He also expected that despite the hardship, they would persist so that justice could be demonstrated and maintained.
Lastly, he encouraged the graduates to keep working hard in their respective posts and be a police officer with integrity that would never forget their original aspiration. As long as they persist in doing so, they will surely be able to present a police story to be taken pride by themselves, their family and friends, he added. A total of 35 probationary inspectors and 58 recruit police constables passed out.
