The Commissioner on Interception of Communications and Surveillance, Mr Yeung Chun-kuen, inspected the passing-out parade as Reviewing Officer for 25 probationary inspectors and 96 recruit police constables at the Police College on November 25.

In his speech, Mr Yeung encouraged graduates to continue learning through handling different types of cases and reaching out to people at all levels when discharging their duties, and to carry out their duties impartially and fearlessly in a humble, inclusive and courteous manner in order to gain the respect, trust and support of the community.

He pointed out that the Force had made significant contributions in making Hong Kong a better place to live and work in, adding that officers should not be upset and discouraged by the acts of a small number of individuals with ulterior motives to smear the Force. He noted that the majority of people regarded the Force as an excellent team which would maintain law and order, protect the lives and property of people, and safeguard Hong Kong and our country with integrity, efficiency, impartiality and fearlessness.

Mr Yeung said that in the past 50 years, he had witnessed the transformation of the Force into one of the best police forces in Asia and even the world, supporting Hong Kong to become a major financial hub and one of the safest cities in the world. However, he reminded the graduates that the love, support and respect from members of the public were gained through decades of hard work and dedication by their predecessors. Lastly, he firmly believed that the graduates would continue to uphold the rule of law, maintain Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, and safeguard Hong Kong and our country.
