The Narcotics Bureau (NB) held Anti-drugs Campaign 2023 between September and November with a series of large-scale promotional activities to educate the public about the harmful effects of drugs and raise their anti-drug awareness through various means.
Promotion truck
The promotion truck featuring NB’s mascot Mighty Cat toured around various districts between September and October to disseminate anti-drug messages. NB and the Hong Kong Baptist University jointly created a replicated cannabis scent free of addictive cannabinoids and placed it on the truck for the public to understand the characteristics of drugs. The 3D hologram on the truck also illustrated the harmful effects of drugs on body organs. Participants could also earn a souvenir and even a personalised 3D magnetic photo after finishing the newly introduced Drugs Knowledge Quiz on the truck. The promotion truck received an overwhelming response with over 5 700 visits.
Publicity on campus
Members of the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) organised anti-drug activities in 20 secondary schools to promote anti-drug awareness among students through innovative activities such as escape game, drama and VR games. Moreover, NB officers joined hands with social workers and rehabilitated abusers to hold sharing sessions in various universities and international schools on the harmful effect of drugs, myths about drug abuse and means used by criminals to exploit young people for drug.
Exhibition
The anti-drug event “Love Our Life – LOL Party 2023”, themed “Drugs? Never ever!”, was held at West Kowloon Cultural District on November 18 and 19, attracting participation of over 11 000 citizens. Activities of the event included game booths organised by L.I.O.N., fitness experience, rope skipping performance, busking and sharing by experts. There was even an anti-drug-themed drone show over the Victoria Harbour on the first night of the event.
Animation and short videos
The four-episode anti-drug animation series themed with Mighty Cat were launched to remind youngsters against drug-abusing and drug-trafficking. The animation and short videos were broadcast on campus, social media and platforms of different stakeholders, including public transport and TV broadcasters.
Learning and teaching resources
To cultivate students’ anti-drug awareness, NB in collaboration with the Education Bureau will provide learning and teaching resources for teachers to help students distinguish different types of drugs and learn about harmful effects of drugs and serious legal consequences of drug trafficking, as well as enhancing the students’ anti-drug awareness through the interactive learning and teaching process.
