In the re-accreditation of the Standard Criminal Investigation Course (SCIC) in early 2024, the Detective Training Centre (DTC) of Police College (the College) showcased to the Accreditation Panel the enhanced competence in criminal investigation of the detective sergeants (SGTs) and police constables (PCs) trained in the course. The panel scrutinised DTC’s submissions, paid site visits to its technology-driven training facilities and simulated practical exercise, and interviewed the programme management, examiners, instructors and graduates of SCIC. The panel unanimously agreed that the investigation competence of the trained detective SGTs and PCs had reached Qualification Framework (QF) Level 5, which is equivalent to that of a Bachelor’s degree.

After their graduation from SCIC, trainees from frontline investigation formations will enter their Workplace Learning (WPL) phase and are required to complete a Professional Development Portfolio for assessment. Officers having completed the WPL phase will be awarded an Advanced Diploma and are entitled to credit exemptions when enrolling in designated advanced academic course. The College has also successfully sought upgrade for the WPL programmes for detective SGTs and PCs to QF Level 5 Advanced Diploma, which fully recognises the investigation competence of the detective SGTs and PCs after being trained in SCIC.
