To further promote crime prevention with the community, the Crime Prevention Bureau (CPB) held its 1st Anniversary of SafeCity Ambassadors Scheme cum Appointment Ceremony 2024 at the Police Headquarters on May 16. In his speech, Commissioner Siu Chak-yee pointed out that with the effective partnerships between the Force and the public, the numbers of most deception cases had declined but that for investment fraud had seen a rise. Therefore, the efforts on anti-deception promotion should be maintained.
The Commissioner commended 47 SafeCity Ambassadors for promoting anti-crime messages over the past year, during which over three million receptions of the Force’s weekly crime-prevention information update were made. CPB set up the new Crime Alerts Network Outstanding Contribution Award this year to praise eight ambassador organisations in recognition of their efforts in crime prevention. A new batch of 36 SafeCity Ambassadors from the catering, transportation, commerce and publication industries, youth uniform groups and clansmen associations were appointed on the day. They would team up with the Force for crime prevention.
The success of the SafeCity.HK website was also reviewed during the ceremony. Since its launch in May last year, the website has recorded more than six million hits and attracts views from the Mainland, Europe and the United States. It has been frequently updated, with a dedicated section on “National Security”, in which useful information and teaching materials are provided for enhancing the public’s awareness of national security.
CPB also showcased its CPB AI Chatbot that has been rolled out recently. It features mini-games and smart interactions about crime and child protection to strengthen young children’s awareness of self-protection. CPB plans to promote CPB AI Chatbot to kindergartens and primary schools to realise the concept that crime prevention and crime fighting should “start from a young age with continuous and concerted efforts”.
