The Complaints Against Police Office (CAPO) invited the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) Chairperson Ms Wong Pui-sze and eight IPCC members to visit the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) and the Anti-Deception Alliance (ADA) on May 27 for the delegation to understand the Force’s strategies in preventing and combatting deception crimes.

Accompanied by the Director of Management Services Lui Kam-ho, the delegation received a briefing by Superintendent of Commercial Crime Bureau Lee Wai-see on the latest trend of deception crimes and the work of ADCC. The officers also shared the outcome of its various initiatives, in particular how ADA had expedited the process of intercepting crime proceeds and implemented the Upstream Scam Intervention mechanism to proactively identify and provide anti-deception advice to potential victims.

The delegation then toured the call centre of ADCC to observe how the officers handled a large volume of enquiries and requests for assistance made to the “Anti-scam Helpline 18222” on a daily basis.

After the visit, IPCC expressed appreciation for the Force’s efforts in combatting crimes and safeguarding citizens’ property. CAPO hoped that these regular exchange activities could foster IPCC members’ understanding of policing work and enable them to examine complaint cases from a wider perspective.
