In March this year, the Traffic Team Cadre of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (AUX) in Hong Kong Island (HKI) participated in an enforcement operation led by Traffic HKI against taxi malpractice. The AUX officers disguised as passengers in the Lan Kwai Fong area. This was the first attempt for AUX officers to take part in undercover operation in recent years. During the operation, three taxi drivers were prosecuted for refusing the hire and/or not displaying the taxi meter. The operation successfully deterred illegal taxi activities, enhanced enforcement efficiency and relieved the deployment pressure on the regular officers.

The Cadre was established in 2021 to assist Traffic HKI in combatting drink-driving and investigating traffic accidents. Cadre members set up roadblocks on designated areas in HKI to conduct spot-checks and breath tests on drivers, assist the Accident Investigation Team and Traffic Investigation Group in accident investigation and handle traffic complaints (including those submitted via Project PROVE).
