June 26 each year is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (World Drug Day). As this year marks the 185th anniversary of Humen’s opium destruction, the Narcotics Bureau (NB) launched a series of activities on World Drug Day to publicise the harms of drugs.

Five graduates from the Leadership Institute on Narcotics (L.I.O.N.) were invited to attend an anti-drug publicity event held in Shenzhen on June 26. Youth representatives from Shenzhen and Hong Kong delivered public speeches to share their experience and insights on anti-drug publicity efforts, followed by exchanging souvenirs to symbolise the joint efforts of both places to establish a strong anti-drug cordon. L.I.O.N. mentees of the present cohort also shared creative posts on social media, leveraging peer influence to promote anti-drug messages.

Moreover, Chief Superintendent of NB Ng Wing-sze attended the opening ceremony of the “Anti-drug Info Zone: Stride Ahead Into A Drug-free Future” Roving Exhibition held by Narcotics Division on that day. The exhibition featured various themed zones to disseminate knowledge about drugs, information about criminal liabilities for drug offences and help-seeking approaches etc.
