To prepare for the full operation of the Three-runway System at the Hong Kong International Airport, Operations Wing (OPS Wing), along with other relevant units, conducted a comprehensive security inspection in the centre runway and surrounding facilities between July 13 and 20 to clear all restricted items within the centre runway area. The focus of the searches included the buildings of Civil Aviation Department and Police Premises, vehicle tunnel covers, large underwater drainage outlets, more than 2 000 manholes and box culverts, as well as the 4km main runway and connecting roads.

More than 500 officers participated in this operation. They came respectively from the Key Points and Search Division, Police Tactical Unit (F Company) of New Territories South, Airport District, Marine West Division, the Airport Authority Hong Kong and Aviation Security Company Limited. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the officers successfully accomplished the mission to ensure integrity of the centre runway.
