The Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) Student Ambassadors’ Appointment Ceremony was held at the Police Headquarters on July 13. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee officiated at the ceremony and appointed 150 students from 33 schools, comprising kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools with Animal CARE Corners on their campuses, as AWP Student Ambassadors. The Commissioner also presented a certificate of appointment to the new member of the AWP Central Advisory Board Mr Wong Wai-yue, hoping that he would provide valuable suggestions to AWP with his rich experience in youth development.

The Commissioner also presented a certificate of appreciation to the new partner of AWP – the Jockey Club College (JCC) of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences of City University of Hong Kong – to commend it for providing diverse training courses for Student Ambassadors of different age groups. Two veterinary students from JCC were appointed AWP Student Mentors, who would share animal knowledge with schools to facilitate Student Ambassadors creating better Animal CARE Corners.

Subsequently, Student Ambassadors and the officiating guests performed an educational drama to promote awareness of animal care and determination to combat cruelty to animals. All the students attending the ceremony promised to join hands with the Force to promote the message of “protecting animals and respecting lives”.

AWP has been implementing Animal CARE Corners in schools since 2022 to cultivate students’ experience of animal care and awareness of animal protection. Currently, there are 39 participating schools and over 400 Student Ambassadors.
