To raise scam prevention awareness of the citizens, New Territories South (NTS) held the Project HomeSweetHome Opening Ceremony on July 20. Over 200 guests, including District Officers (DOs) of Sha Tin, Kwai Tsing, Tsuen Wan and the Islands Districts, representatives of 30 District Services and Community Care Teams (Care Team), staff members of the Housing Department (HD), management of police districts and its community fight crime partners, attended the ceremony. Regional Commander of NTS Mak Chin-ho presented souvenirs to the DOs and Care Team representatives in appreciation for their staunch support.
In addition to the scam-prevention magic performance and traditional Chinese lion dance, booth games were set up at the scene for the scam prevention carnival that followed, attracting participation of over 500 citizens. Daily necessities bearing scam prevention messages were also distributed to citizens for promoting anti-scam awareness to their daily life.
Moreover, the Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO) of NTS sorted through the latest modus operandi of scams and produced the leaflet “NTS Scam Prevention Compass” in early July. Together with officers from Tsuen Wan District, Sha Tin District, Kwai Tsing District, Lantau District and community partners, RCPO of NTS distributed scam prevention leaflets to over 260 000 households in public housing estates.
NTS plans to join hands with the Home Affairs Department, HD, Care Teams and community partners of the police districts to organise scam prevention activities in the coming months to enhance more citizens’ awareness of deception. It will also make use of online social medial platforms to expand its scope of publicity so that the vision of “Anti-scam Messages to Households – Contentment and Prosperity in Life” can be achieved.
