One Day as a PI
Between August 2 and 3, 45 Police Mentorship Programme (PMP) mentees were selected to participate in the “One Day as a Probationary Inspector (PI)” experiential training camp where they experienced Chinese-style foot drill training, physical fitness training, live ammunition shooting demonstrations, navigation exercise, flag-raising ceremony and staying overnight at barracks. Tactical training and practical case handling were introduced for the first time, allowing mentees to gain wider exposure to PI training. Former Commandant of Police Tactical Unit (PTU) Chan Kin-kwok was invited to lead the mentees doing hill run. All mentees commented that the training camp could deepen their understanding of PI training and strengthened their determination to join the Force in the future.
Summer Day Camp
The PMP Summer Day Camp was held at the Police College on August 3, attracting a participation of more than 300 mentors and mentees. In his speech, PMP Head Mentor cum Assistant Commissioner (Personnel) Chan Man-tak said that entering its 20th anniversary, PMP had attracted many outstanding and talented mentees to join the Force. He believed that through various PMP activities, mentees could have a deeper understanding of police duties.
The event included multiple Police Training Stations for mentees to understand the qualities required of a police officer. A new laser shooting challenge was included for the first time, allowing mentees to have the first feel of shooting. Additionally, Chan Kin-kwok shared his policing career and experience in climbing Mount Everest. The mentees found the sharing session very inspiring. Moreover, awards for the PMP Best Mentor and top three mentees from the “One Day as a PI” were also presented during the camp.
