To promote the awareness of anti-deception through diverse approaches, Hong Kong Island (HKI) has launched the HKI Anti-deception 3 x 3 Basketball Tournament Programme since October 2023 to disseminate anti-deception information among primary and secondary school students through basketball training. Trainees with outstanding performance and potential may have chances to receive professional training from current A1 division men’s basketball players (the players).

The one-year programme consists of three phases. In phase I, players were arranged to visit schools to demonstrate basketball skills and play a friendly game with students, while officers of the Regional Crime Prevention Office of HKI briefed students on the modus operandi of latest scams. 30 primary and secondary schools on HKI have been visited and more than 1 000 students have been reached so far.

In phase II, the trainees were arranged for doing volunteer services. In the volunteer visit on July 10, Deputy Regional Commander of HKI Lam Hung-chuen and Chairman of the District Youth Community Building Committee of Central and Western District Mr Ip Yik-nam led the trainees and players to pay a visit to the Hong Kong Red Cross John F. Kennedy Centre, where they shared the joy of playing 3 x 3 basketball with students with special education needs and gave them tips on scam prevention.

In phase III, a 3 x 3 basketball tournament and anti-crime carnival will be held in September. All are welcome.
