The Special Olympics (SO) Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong, China Sports Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability and the seven disciplinary forces, namely the Force, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, Correctional Services Department, Fire Services Department, Government Flying Service and Independent Commission Against Corruption, organised the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run for SO Hong Kong Kick-off Ceremony at Sha Tin Sports Ground on September 22 to raise fund for supporting the athletes taking part in the Summer/Winter Games of SO World Games, SO East Asia and local training.
The ceremony started with the traditional torch run to promote and appeal for support in the fund-raising campaign. The Secretary for Security Mr Tang Ping-keung officiated at the ceremony to show support to the athletes and officers of the disciplinary forces. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee passed the torch “Flame of Hope” to Chairman of the Police Sports Council Chan Sze-tat to symbolise passing on the spirit of SO.
The Force raised more than $710 000 for the event. The top three fund-raising Formations went to Hong Kong Island, Kowloon East and New Territories North Regions.
