The Force established its 15th Volunteer Secondary Duty Cadre (Secondary Cadre) — the Force Drone Cadre (FDC) on October 8. The FDC Inauguration Ceremony took place at the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters, where FDC cadre members entered the parade ground led by drones, marking the start of the event. Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Chow Yat-ming was invited as the guest of honour, with Director of Operations Chan Tung delivering the opening speech.
To showcase the piloting skills of FDC members and functions of various types of drones, a series of impressive drone performances were arranged. The highlight was the Force’s first ever drone flag display. Besides, certificates of appointment and awards for the best all-round trainees were presented. The Officer-in-charge of FDC Ko Chung-ying encouraged all cadre members to continue safeguarding the community and citizens’ safety in their future police work.
The FDC Secretariat is formed by the Key Points and Search Division (3), responsible for the overall management of FDC, including the recruitment, training, mobilisation and logistical/administrative support for the cadre. The 34 FDC members, all of whom are qualified Force Remote Pilots, come from major formations and the six Regions. They are required to undergo a stringent selection process, including interview and practical assessment. The selected candidates must complete the 5-day induction training course with satisfactory result before being considered to be appointed as a cadre member.
