The Regional Crime Prevention Office (RCPO) of Hong Kong Island (HKI) held the Animal Protection Carnival 2024 on October 19, attracting nearly 1 000 citizens. Regional Commander of HKI Kwok Ka-chuen mentioned in his speech at the opening ceremony that the Force had always attached great importance to animal welfare and actively recruited volunteers to join the Animal Watchers Programme (AWP) as AWP Captains and AWP Watchers. Earlier this year, the Attentive Listening Volunteer Dogs Training Class was initiated for experienced dog handlers from the Force to be arranged to provide training for those interested in becoming pet volunteers.

In addition to game booths, the event featured various shows, including interactions with police dogs and parrots, kids balance bike demonstrations and saxophone performances. Artiste Ms Chan Ting-yan and reptile experts were also invited to share pet care tips and animal trivia. RCPO HKI also presented certificates of appreciation to the Swire Group Charitable Trust and Ocean Park in recognition of their great support to AWP.
