To celebrate the 180th anniversary of the Force, the Police Dragon Boat Club (PDBC) held the Soaring 180 Police Dragon Club Charity Race at Ma Liu Shui Marine Police Base on October 19. 52 teams from various formations of the Force, disciplinary services, police-community engagement projects, Junior Police Call (JPC) and various police associations participated in 29 different races.


The Founding Chairman of PDBC cum former Commissioner Tsang Wai-hung was invited to attend the event. Former presidents, former chairpersons, senior coaches and steersmen formed the Tribute Dragon team to compete. Furthermore, eight teams formed by the champions and runners-up from four dragon boat races competed for the Soaring 180 Dragon Boat Race. The event successfully raised over $650 000 to be fully donated to the Hong Kong Rett Syndrome Association and the Dance with Depression Association after deducting event expenses.


The JPC Inter-District Dragon Boat Charity Race was also held on the same day. JPC members from 14 districts competed for the race. In the end, Western District won the championship while Marine Port District and Tuen Mun District won the first and second runners-up respectively. In terms of fundraising, JPC raised around $260 000 in total. Kowloon City District won the highest fundraising award while Eastern District and Tuen Mun District ranked second and third respectively.


The race established in 2004 has been raising funds for the vulnerable in community. The accumulated amount has exceeded $9 million, with two schools built in the Mainland.
