The Quick Reaction Force (QRF) of New Territories North (NTN), Key Points and Search Division (KPS), Information Systems Wing (ISW), Regional Missing Person Unit (RMPU) of Kowloon East (KE), in conjunction with several government departments, namely the Civil Aid Service (CAS), Fire Services Department (FSD) and Government Flying Service, as well as other mountaineering organisations, held the Mountaineering Safety Promotion Day 2024 and the 55th Anniversary of the CAS Mountain Search and Rescue Company on October 20 to broaden citizens’ knowledge about mountaineering safety.
Commissioner Siu Chak-yee, Director of Fire Services Yeung Yan-kin and representatives from other government departments officiated at the opening ceremony. The Commissioner stated in his speech that the activity could help members of the public acquire essential safety knowledge and skills, and enhance their awareness of potential dangers.
In addition to police dog performances and demonstrations of FSD search and rescue dogs, officers of QRF of NTN invited the attendees to join a quiz competition. The questions covered national security, counter-terrorism, anti-deception and mountaineering safety. KPS, ISW and RMPU of KE showcased various rescue equipment. The event attracted participation of over 1 000 citizens.
