To promote the automated external defibrillator (AED) among the general public and enhance the efficiency in saving lives, the Police Quartering Division (PQD) took the initiative to coordinate with the Government Property Agency (GPA) on installation of AED at relevant staff quarters. Fire Services Department was invited to pay site visits to Disciplined Services Quarters (DSQ) and Police Married Quarters (PMQ) for choosing appropriate installation locations.
Installation of AED took place by two phases. GPA completed the first phase of installation at all DSQs in March. PQD completed the installation works at ten PMQs on October 17. AEDs are designed for use by the general public. Anyone with or without training in operating an AED can perform first aid on patients simply by following the audio and/or graphical prompts from the AED. Training has been provided to all security personnel in the quarters on the use of AED.
