Hong Kong will host the 94th INTERPOL General Assembly in 2026, during which delegations to be led by Police chiefs and senior executives from 196 law enforcement agencies will be attending this global conference.
The Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) delegation, led by Deputy Commissioner (Operations) (DCP OPS) Chow Yat-ming, attended the INTERPOL General Assembly in Glasgow, UK between November 4 and 7 this year to present the application on behalf of China and secured the winning bid of the event. This would be the first occasion for Hong Kong to host the event.
The INTERPOL General Assembly is the highest governing body of the organisation where its member countries gather to discuss international policing issues and foster collaboration. The hosting of the international annual policing event in Hong Kong serves to demonstrate the professional image of Hong Kong, and it is also a commitment of the HKPF to enhancing collaboration in the global law enforcement community.
“Hosting the 94th General Assembly in Hong Kong represents an opportunity for China to reaffirm our commitment and dedication to international cooperation, and to fostering our lasting partnership with the global police community,” DCP OPS said at the Glasgow conference. During the conference, Assistant Commissioner (Crime) (ACP CRM) Chung Wing-man joined a panel of women leaders from overseas police forces and INTERPOL to discuss a wide array of issues including the development and retention of female talents in police force and the challenge of combatting gender-based violence in society.
The INTERPOL, which was founded in 1923, has 196 member countries nowadays. China is one of its member countries, with Hong Kong as its sub-bureau. The INTERPOL establishes network connecting LEAs worldwide which coordinates international police cooperation, provides operational and technical supports, and shares information as a global hub in the fight against transnational and organised crimes.
