The Force Working Group on Community Engagement (FWG) held the ninth half-yearly meeting with the chairpersons of the associations of heads of schools and Federations of Parent-teacher Associations (PTAs) of 18 Districts at the Police Headquarters on October 14 and 15, and held the fifth half-yearly meeting with the school sponsoring bodies at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on October 21. Commissioner Siu Chak-yee and Director of Operations Chan Tung chaired the meetings. Each session was attended by around 20 chairpersons from each of the two associations, representatives from 17 school sponsoring bodies, District Commanders and Police Community Relations Officers (PCROs), as well as officers from Crime Wing, Public Relations Wing and Police Negotiation Cadre (PNC).
During his opening remarks, the Commissioner stated that crime prevention for the youth should be conducted “early, consistently, and co-operatively”. He expressed gratitude to the participants for supporting and providing valuable feedback for the last two editions of the Youth Crime Prevention Booklet. He introduced the third and latest edition of the booklet, hoping to provide principals, teachers and parents with information on the latest crime trends and fully support their crime prevention education.
Amid growing social concern over mental health of school children, the Commissioner especially arranged the Officer-in-charge of PNC Liauw Ka-kei to give a briefing on school crisis management. Liauw Ka-kei first introduced the Practical Guideline for Crisis Management produced by PNC. He stated that PNC had held 21 sessions of School Crisis Management Sharing since November 2023 to provide to over 2 500 principals, teachers, social workers and parents the skills for handling student suicide.
Moreover, Acting Senior Superintendent of Crime Wing Support Lam Sze-yi explained the relevant clauses of Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance and the Force’s series of large-scale publicity campaigns on child protection. Lastly, the Commissioner encouraged all participants to share Force information and stay in touch with the PCROs of their respective Districts.
Since its establishment in early 2020, FWG has been dedicated to building rapport with young people and enhancing public trust in the Force. FWG also collaborates with youth workers proactively to promote awareness of law-abiding jointly.
